Are you controlling my mind?

Changes and shifts in behavior that happen with the NeurOptimal® system are initiated by your own brain. This system does not force your brain to perform at a certain frequency nor does it tell it what to do. Instead, it uses your brain's natural ability to adapt to new information presented in a feedback loop to learn new ways of coping. It’s up to your brain to listen.

What is neurofeedback?

Feedback happens when a system uses output as the input as information to get the desired output. In this case, the system is your brain and the output is the voltage changes happening in your brain. The input is sensing the voltage changes which becomes the information being told to your brain via interruptions in an audio track you are listening to. This system uses the complex mathematics of how the brain understands and adapts to new information to affect our perception.

I heard neurofeedback can have negative side effects.

This system prides itself on not having side effects. Over 3 million hours have been logged with trainers across the world and not one adverse side effect! Like all modalities of self-care; therapy, meditation, exercise, your body or mind will go through a period of adjustment. With NeurOptimal®, it's common for your awareness of yourself and others to change - "A-ha" moments, which may be uncomfortable at first.

Why are there no side effects?
First, NeurOptimal® does not put any energy into your brain so it’s not forcing training to happen potentially causing overtraining and adverse side effects. With NeurOptimal® your whole brain is being trained all at once so training is balanced. Second, because NeurOptimal® has Auto Navigation there is no chance that the operator can incorrectly train your brain.  This is not a one size fits all concept rather a tailored session, each session for the brain you have that day.  Each session is your first and last. Much like a yoga class, you work with the body you came in with, but instead it's your brain!

Can NeurOptimal® make me smarter?

No. But it may help you focus and have clarity so you can access the information you have more easily or be able to take in information and retain it. For example, say you get nervous taking tests and the result is that you perform poorly. What if you go into the test feeling relaxed and thinking clearly rather than worrying about the event of test-taking? Chances are you’ll perform better just because of your state of mind.

How many sessions does it take?

The answer to this is subjective to each client. We all respond differently. Some experience profound shifts after the first few sessions, others it may take significantly more. Generally, most clients experience some shifts by 8-10 sessions. The bulk of what NeurOptimal® will do for you happens after these first initial sessions. Training your brain takes time and patience. The final number of sessions you do is based on how you are feeling and what shifts you are seeing. Whatever the number ends up being, you are giving yourself the gift of lasting resiliency, self-regulation, and balance in response to stress!

Why am I tired after a session?

Doing neurofeedback with NeurOptimal® is like going back to the gym after it’s been a while, but for your brain. Your brain may be a little tired after but it usually goes away after you get up and move or after a rest. NeurOptimal® scans your brain 256 times a second during your 33 min session, a bit like your brain running a marathon. As you train, you may find that you are not as tired after sessions as you were in the beginning. When you train either your muscles or your brain you build strength, resilience, and balance!
